Harris Corporation’s EWeek Celebrates Contributions of Engineers

MELBOURNE, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) employees across the country this week are
celebrating National Engineers Week (EWeek) by participating in more
than 80 events focused on innovation and engaging the next generation of
engineers. The celebration is part of a national
event
organized by the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Harris EWeek recognizes and celebrates the many achievements of the
company’s nearly 8,000 engineers and scientists – who make up more than
45 percent of the company’s overall employment. Harris employees will
use their technical expertise to compete in fun and friendly team
challenges, such as guiding quadcopters through an obstacle course,
building strong yet lightweight balsa bridges and flying gliders the
furthest without breaking egg payloads.

New this year, Harris’ employee Intrapreneur Resource Group will host a
team innovation competition for a new application of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) to improve current Harris capabilities, with winners
receiving company research and development (R&D) seed money. Harris
invests an industry-leading 5 percent of annual revenue in R&D.

To foster a new generation of engineers, the company has invited
students involved in regional Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) programs to participate in select events with Harris
engineers, including building Lego robots and touring company campuses.

“EWeek’s ‘Invent Amazing’ theme mirrors the culture of innovation
that we strive to cultivate at Harris,” said William M. Brown, chairman,
president and CEO. “I’m impressed every day by the ingenuity and
excellence our engineers demonstrate in support of our customers and
their critical missions.”

As part of the week-long celebration, Harris named Ronda Henning the
2019 Harris Corporation Fellow, the company’s highest recognition for
engineering and technical achievement. She is the 27th
employee to receive the distinguished award since it was established in
2000.

Henning is a senior scientist in cybersecurity and information assurance
who has spent more than 30 years at Harris. She is a highly accredited
thought leader and mission-solutions architect, holds several patents
and has been instrumental in advancing key Harris technologies in the
industry. Henning also is a distinguished member of Women in
Cybersecurity and mentors female engineers.
